  • "Start a Team" refers to offering the Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole program to a small group of 8-15 girls at a location or site near you. 
  • First check to see if there is an existing team at your desired location in your community.
  • Designate a Site Liaison for your site and team. The Site Liaison is an employee of the site who will be the main site contact for the team of girls, coaches and Girls on the Run council staff. A Site Liaison may also dual-serve as a Coach.
  • Review the Fall 2024 Season Site Information Packet for season specific information about our program and what it takes to start a team.
  • Complete a Site Application.
  • Recruit at minimum, 3 volunteer coaches, who agree to complete GOTR National Coach Training program (consists of online modules + one in-person training session).
  • The location/site must provide a safe, dedicated outdoor and indoor space, where the program can be facilitated to the team at the dates/tims determined for the season.
  • Work with the coaching team to set the team's practice schedule (same days/times each week).
  • Lead recruitment efforts by distributing marketing materials (provided by GOTR) in an effort to recruit at minimum 8 girls per team (15 girls maximum). Sites may host more than one team. *Must have an additional 3 coaches for each additional team.
  • Site Liaisons, Coaches and the council will work together to gain support from location administrators, such as a school principal or director of the community center.

Site Liaison Responsibilities

  • An employee of the site who will be the main site contact for the team of girls, coaches and Girls on the Run council staff.
  • Identify/recruit at minimum 3 coaches from your site and/or community*  
  • Along with the coaching team determined the practice schedule
  • Submits the Site Application for the site to host a team.
  • Lead recruitment efforts by distributing marketing materials (provided by GOTR) in an effort to recruit at minimum 8 girls per team (15 girls maximum).
  • Offers assistance and support to families who need online registration assistance.

*If you need assistance in the recruitment of coaches for your team, we will work with you to add assistance coaches from our volunteer pool. It is highly recommended your team's head coach be an employee of the site.
