Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is an afterschool program that inspires girls in 3rd-5th grades to be joyful, healthy and confident! Throughout the season, girls will learn lessons and skills that include friendship building, community strengthening, and goal setting while completing running activites to prepare her to complete a non-competitive Celebratory 5K at the end of the season. Her path to empowerment begins at Girls on the Run! Girls will run, hop, roll, walk, push or skip – we celebrate all forms of movement and girls of all abilites belong on our team!

Girl registration for the Fall Season will open August 17, 2026.

Fin-Aid - GOTR

Financial Assistance, 2-Payment Plan & GOTR Soles

We are committed to being accessible to any girl who wants to participate and are dedicated to ensuring that program cost is NEVER a barrier to participation. Through the generosity of donors and grants, Girls on the Run of the Flint Hills provides financial assistance to any family who cannot pay the full registration fee. The financial assistance eligibility requirements are included in the online registration process through a series of questions. Families will know immediately if financial assistance is awarded and the fee will be adjusted accordingly. (Eligibility is determined on a sliding scale based on household size and income.)

Any family who registers their girl may opt into our two-payment plan. This option allows families to pay 50% of the registration fee at the time of registration, with the remaining 50% due 30 days later.

We recognize that, in order for girls to be successful in their 5K training, they must have the tools they need—quality running shoes and athletic bras. By providing these essentials, we help eliminate barriers to participation, allowing girls to run with comfort and confidence. Each season, we proudly offer our GOTR Soles program to provide quality running shoes and athletic bras to any girl with a need.

Registration Fees

Inspiring girls, teaching life skills, building confidence and setting young girls down the path of a healthy lifestyle is PRICELESS! However, there are real costs associated with operating a non-profit organization, training our volunteer coaches and delivering Girls on the Run programming to approximately 400+ girls throughout our 10-county area each year.

The actual cost of programming per girl is $270, however through the generosity of donors we are able to reduce the cost of the registration to $175 per girl. Registration includes:

  • 16-20, ninety-minute practices led by trained GOTR volunteer coaches
  • All curriculum and lesson materials
  • A healthy snack at each practice
  • Official GOTR program shirt
  • GOTR cinch backpack
  • GOTR water bottle
  • Personal Girl Journal for goal-setting, growth and reflection
  • Her 5K registration fee for our Celebratory 5K event
  • Her 5K Finisher's Medal
  • 5K Celebratory fun

My girl isn't a big runner. Is this program for her? OR My girl is already a skilled runner. Is this program for her?

Yes! GOTR is so much more than running!  Every girl can benefit from the experience of building confidence through accomplishment while participating in our rich, curriculum-based, age-appropriate, interactive lessons and team-building. She can expect lots of games, talking, laughing and creative expression each day. And know that when we say "run," we mean run, walk, skip, roll or push, just as long as you are moving foward!

We can't afford the program registration fee, but our child would love to participate. How does financial aid work?

We NEVER want cost to be the reason she doesn't participate and are committed to making Girls on the Run accessible to all who want to particpate! Thanks to the generosity of donors, grants, and community supporters, financial aid is available to any girl who needs it. Financial aid eligibility is included in the online registration process through a series of questions to determine eligibility. Families will know immediately if financial aid is awarded and the fee will be adjusted accordingly. (Eligibility is based on a sliding scale based on household size and income.)

What is your registration refund policy?

Our policy states that the participant will receive a 75% refund if requested 7 days prior to the first day of her team's practice. This is to leave ample time to fill her slot. After the 7 day time period, no refunds will be issued.

If the site's team is canceled due to insufficient participant registration or if the Girls on the Run council cancels the site's team, the registration fee will be refunded to each participant in the amount they paid.

Does my girl have to attend all practice days in the season?

Our Attendance Policy states that girls may miss no more than 4 of the season's practices. The policy is in place because our GOTR lessons and activities build up from one day's lesson to the next focusing on individual goal-setting and team-building. And remember, is training to conquer her individual 5K goals at the end of the season - attendance is imperative to prevent injury and to ensure she is 5K trained!!

If your girl will be unable to follow our Attendance Policy, PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER HER and take a slot. Thank you for understanding our policy to save room for a girl who can attend 100% of the time. We hope you will consider joining us in a future season when she can enjoy the entire season of GOTR.

Is there a way for me or my business to sponsor an individual girl, a team of girls, or a Camp GOTR session?

Yes! As a mission-driven 501(c)3, Girls on the Run relies on generous donors in order to provide more than $30,000 in program scholarships for families in need. Please reach out to candice.mcintosh@girlsontherun.org to receive more information about sponsoring a girl or a team of girls this season.
